ANAM for Military

Injury, illness, and exposure to operational stressors can significantly disrupt cognitive function. These impairments may adversely affect performance and safety, especially in high-pressure environments commonly encountered by military and security personnel. ANAM, a tablet- or PC-based automated cognitive assessment platform, is designed to quantify the nuanced cognitive effects of such stressors.

Why ANAM?

With over four million administrations among U.S. military personnel, ANAM has repeatedly demonstrated the capability to detect cognitive changes associated with operational exposures or military-relevant risk factors. ANAM has been deployed in a variety of harsh environments commonly encountered by military personnel – ranging from undersea to outer space. ANAM UltraMobile was specifically built for mobile deployment with input provided by U.S. Special Forces. It is optimized for use in locations without ready internet connectivity. Vista has also partnered with the U.S. Navy to create a version of ANAM UltraMobile that is fully functional underwater.

Product Features

The U.S. Military uses a customized ANAM battery that includes questionnaires assessing mood, general and brain injury symptoms, post-traumatic stress symptoms, and sleepiness. It also includes a selection of tests from the ANAM library measuring fundamental neurocognitive functions including response speed, attention/concentration, immediate and delayed memory, spatial processing, and decision processing speed and efficiency.

  • All ANAM testing is conducted locally on the device. UltraMobile uses have the option for secure data transmission when protocol permits.
  • All data on ANAM tablets have AES 128 or AES 256-bit encryption.

Flexible

  • ANAM is available on both standard (i.e., desktop/laptop) and mobile (i.e., tablet) computing platforms
  • Administration capabilities include stand-alone, down-range (unconnected), and in small and large group environments, allowing users to deploy our technology anywhere.
  • Standard military batteries include “short” and longer, extended batteries to be used at recruitment and semi-annual screening examinations.
  • Trained users can administer tests “down range” without internet connectivity and compare to baselines previously imported from the standard ANAM platform or collected on the UltraMobile platform.
  • Data storage can be customized to meet specific needs (local storage or  cloud-based databases (hosted by the customer or Vista.)

  • Reporting begins with a customized summary report providing a narrative summary of performance.

  • ANAM tests are language-neutral and deployed with instructions that have been translated to the languages of expected test takers.

History

The U.S. military has used ANAM for pre-deployment baselines and post-injury return-to-duty since 2008, with over 3.75 million assessments conducted. Vista LifeSciences collaborated with U.S. Special Forces in the development of the mobile version of ANAM, UltraMobile, to ensure field-readiness of the technology.

Research

ANAM has been called the “gold standard” for cognitive testing in research looking at cognitive change. The combination of flexibility and sensitivity provided by ANAM has made it the leading product in military concussion research and cognitive monitoring.
